HIV Workshop: For a New Roadmap Toward HIV Cure

Tucker, GA, June 13, 2011 -- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) affects 33 million people worldwide. This disease can be controlled with antiretroviral drugs, which can also prevent it from spreading, but it cannot be eradicated completely. If a cure is ever to be found for HIV, then doctors and scientists from around the world must work together to speed research on HIV reservoirs and persistence. By bringing the best and brightest minds in the world together, the world has a better shot at finding an HIV infection cure.

The Fifth International Workshop on HIV Persistence During Therapy will be held at the Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort from December 6-9, 2011. This bi-annual international workshop on HIV persistence is a wonderful opportunity from doctors and scientists from all over the world to come together and compare notes on the latest developments and discoveries in regard to HIV reservoirs and eradication strategies. It's an unprecedented opportunity to share and receive the latest information on this serious topic, and it only comes once every other year.

This year's international workshop on HIV persistence is jam-packed full of lectures and important information about the latest advances in the development of a cure for HIV. With sessions featuring diverse topics ranging from the cellular level to the first pilot trials in humans, you'll be sure to learn something new. With speakers and researchers attending from all over the world, you're sure to increase networking in the field.

Of course, an event of this scale would not be possible without contributions from corporate sponsors. Historically, this workshop on HIV persistence has received little attention from pharmaceutical companies. Since 2009, it is supported by governmental agencies like the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and ANRS (French Agency for AIDS Research). It can't be done without the help of more investors. Remember: your contribution can make a difference.
